Las Artes provides opportunities for youth, ages 16-21, living in Maricopa County. The Valley of the Sun YMCA and Maricopa County have joined forces to bring this innovative youth program to the West Valley. This program blends fine art and academic instruction, social and emotional support, GED and work readiness training.


Mural - Bret R. Tarver

Bret R. Tarver Elementary commissioned Las Artes to create a memorial mural. The mural is in memory of Bret R. Tarver and consists of about 320 tile and glaze. Designed by Diana Calderon, art instructor and students worked on the 8 x 10 feet mural together. Mural was completed and installed May 2012.

"El Corrido de Glendale Arizona" beautiful mural designed by Martin Moreno, painted by many!

"El Corrido de Glendale, Arizona," mural presents a 100-year timeline of Glendale history in a work of art full of symbolism. The 6' x 16' mural (330 tiles) includes a mariachi figure in front of a landscape featuring area agriculture, the iconic Sugar Beet Factory, Native American pottery, Glendale High School and the University of Phoenix Stadium, along with some other historical significance such as the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and Sahuaro Ranch Park. The mural project was part of Artwerks, a city program that is pairing business owners with local artists to enhance Glendale's redevelopment of the Centerline District along the Glendale Avenue corridor. The beautifully painted mural was installed December 2011, on the south wall of Bitzee Mama's Restaurant, 7023 N. 58th Avenue.
Las Artes art director Martin Moreno, art coordinator Diana Calderon, a few community members and several students and graduates of Las Artes de Maricopa painted the mural.
